The French auto major Renault which is slowly building up its portfolio in Indian auto market is finally going to launch a compact car. The Indian auto market is predominantly a small car market with nearly 70 percent of the sales coming from the passenger car segment. So it is imperative for any auto maker to offer a small car in their portfolio to gain numbers. Renault has announced that it is unveiling a new compact car on October 29 in Delhi coinciding with the inaugural edition of Indian Grand Prix.
It can be recalled that few days ago it was reported that Renault is planning to launch Modus small car in India. The reports mentioned that already there are some spy shots of the Renault Modus have been flying around in the media off late with the car being spotted in Chennai near the Ranault-Nissan plant. It was mentioned that globally, the car has two body type variants - Modus and the Grand Modus, but the Grand Modus however will not make its way to India. Under the hood, the Modus may carry the same engine as the petrol and the diesel Nissan Micra. A 1.2-litre petrol power plant and a 1.5-litre dCi engine that also powers the Fluence are the most likely candidates to find its way to into the Modus. Internationally, the Modus was the first small car to get a 5 Star Euro NCAP (an assessment programme that judges car safety) rating.
